On March 20th, 2012 Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania and Public Institution Lithuanian Business Support Agency signed an agreement with Public Institution “ Science and Technology Park of Institute of Physics ” to provide support to the project “ Reinforcement of international competitiveness of Laser and Engineering Technologies Cluster ” under Priority 1 „Research and technological development for economic competitiveness and growth. Inoklaster LT“. European Union (EU) Structural Funds support for the implementation of the project from the European Regional Development Fund reached more than 870 thousand litas.

The project was implemented by Laser and Engineering Technologies Cluster (LITEK), which brings together twelve companies and organizations working in the field of laser and related engineering technologies and carrying out joint projects. Currently the members of the cluster are JSC Arginta, JSC Arginta Engineering, JSC Eksma, JSC  Elas, JSC Ekspla, State Research Institute  Center for Physical Sciences and Technology (FTMC), PI Intechcentras, JSC Optida, JSC Optolita, JSC Optonas, JSC Progressive Business Solutions and project coordinator Public Institution “ Science and Technology Park of Institute of Physics ”. The total annual turnover of LITEK companies exceeds 120 million litas and over 490 employees.

The aim of the project was to strengthen the competitiveness of the Laser and Engineering Technologies Cluster in international markets. As part of the project, members of the cluster participated in 14 international laser technology exhibitions and conferences, promotional and information materials presenting the cluster and its products, as well as training of cluster employees. During the project, cooperation agreements were signed with 2 new laser industry organizations – JSC TOPAG Lasertechnik GmbH, Germany, and SECPhO (Southern European Cluster of Photonics and Optics), Spain. These organizations have already been actively involved in joint activities of the cluster in planning of new research and projects, which is especially important in order to increase the international cooperation of the cluster, its involvement in international networks and participation in international projects.
